Queen Bee Apis Mellifera

The queen bee is one of the most vital members of any beehive. Apis Mellifera, also known as the western honey bee, is the most common species of honey bee found in North America. The queen bee is the largest and longest-living member of the hive and her primary role is to lay eggs which will ultimately become worker or drone bees.

The queen bee is an important part of any beehive not just because she lays eggs but also because her pheromones influence the behaviour and development of other members within it. Without a healthy queen bee, a hive cannot survive for very long! Therefore, making sure that each beehive has a strong queen should be priority for any beekeeper looking to ensure their hives’ success.
